Feeling a little down? Work week blues catching up with you?

Fear not! For I am about to reveal to you the secrets of boundless energy, endless motivation, and unparalleled genius.

Ok, that’s not entirely true.

I don’t have the secrets to energy, motivation, or genius. What I do have are three wonderful quotes that always give me a lift when work and life weigh me down. I hope you find them as inspirational as I do.

On Success and Achievement

1. “Ask yourself whether the dream of heaven and greatness should be waiting for us in our graves – or whether it should be ours here and now and on this earth.” – Ayn Rand

Ayn Rand and her philosophy, Objectivism, are still highly controversial decades after her death. But whether or not you agree with all of her viewpoints, her passion for achievement is undeniable. This is actually one of my favorite quotes of all time. It reminds us that we can do great things in our lives, if we only have the energy and courage to pursue them.

2. “That some achieve great success, is proof to all that others can achieve it as well.” – Abraham Lincoln

Abe Lincoln knew quite a bit about failure. Before being elected president, he managed to lose a long list of elections at both the state and national level. He failed in business several times. He wasn’t even good looking! But today, Lincoln is known as one of the greatest leaders the country has ever had. Next time you find yourself discouraged by life’s ups and downs or jealous of someone else’s achievements, remember this quote – then act on it.

3. “It is important that you recognize your progress and take pride in your accomplishments. Share your achievements with others. Brag a little. The recognition and support of those around you is nurturing.” - Rosemarie Rossetti

We’re taught from a very young age that bragging is bad, and that pride goeth before a fall. But a little bragging can be good. When you accomplish something, it’s only natural to celebrate. Did you just launch a wonderful new product? Did you just land your first contract? Don’t be afraid to be proud of yourself!

  • Two things I really like from that quote: 1) Confidence is contagious. That's very true. As entrepreneurs, we must be leaders as well as innovators. We need to lead through confidence, energy, and passion - that's how we'll get others to believe in our ideas. 2) Individual commitment is what drives groups. People often forget the power of the individual when they look at groups from a collectivist standpoint. But in truth, great things are always accomplished by individuals, and so it is the individual we have to respect and protect.

Thank you so much for sharing, lori!

I am the furthest thing from a football fan in the world, but Vince Lombardi was a great motivator whose quotes supersede football. Here are a few of my favorites:

Confidence is contagious. So is lack of confidence.

If you can accept losing, you can't win.

Individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.
  • I never thought of Attila the Hun as an inspiring person, but that quote sure makes me think twice! So very true. We should be people of action, never giving up just because times get hard.
  • One of my favourites is " We will find a away or we will make one" - Attila the Hun.

That says it all really - if those words are good enough for him, they are good enough for me!
  • Thanks for sharing the Einstein quote, Jai Kai. Looks like Einstein was a scientist -and- a philosopher.

I do have to disagree a little bit with what he said here, though. I don't think that property, outward success, and luxury are necessarily contemptible things - it really depends on how you pursue them and what you do once you get them. I believe that people who work hard and accomplish great things deserve to achieve material success as well.
  • Great Quote Picks Jeffrey

Here is one of my favorite

    ALBERT EINSTEIN:

“The ideals which have lighted me on my way and time after time given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. The ordinary objects of human endeavour – property, outward success, and luxury have always seemed to me contemptible.”
  • That's so true. Some people hate losing, so they get discouraged every time they lose. Other people hate losing, so they resolve to try harder every time.

    Thanks for sharing, Omar!
  • Not long ago I shared this quote in one of my blog posts:

"For winners, losing inspires them. For losers, losing defeats them."

    - Robert T. Kiyosaki "Rich Dad, Poor Dad"

I think this is a good reminder when things are not going quite as we expected initially, you need to realize that if you give up you're just giving up to doing the same thing that most of the population does, which is usually why they don't succeed
